Job Summary:
The Marine Ecologist will be responsible for conducting ecological surveys, analyzing marine biodiversity, assessing environmental impacts, and providing expert advice on marine ecosystem health. This role requires a strong understanding of marine ecology, field research experience, and a commitment to conservation.
Responsibilities:
Ecological Surveys and Monitoring:
Plan and execute field surveys to assess marine biodiversity and habitat health.
Collect and analyze data on marine flora and fauna, including benthic, pelagic, and coastal ecosystems.
Conduct underwater surveys using various techniques (SCUBA, ROVs, etc.).
Deploy and maintain environmental monitoring equipment.
Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs):
Conduct ecological components of EIAs for maritime projects (e.g., coastal development, offshore energy).
Assess the potential impacts of human activities on marine ecosystems.
Develop mitigation and monitoring plans to minimize environmental impacts.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
Analyze ecological data using statistical software and GIS.
Prepare detailed reports and presentations summarizing research findings.
Contribute to scientific publications and presentations.
Biodiversity Studies:
Conduct studies on marine biodiversity and ecosystem function.
Identify and assess the status of sensitive and endangered species.
Contribute to conservation planning and management.
Regulatory Compliance:
Provide ecological expertise to support regulatory compliance efforts.
Assist in the preparation of permit applications and environmental compliance reports.
Stay up-to-date on relevant environmental regulations and policies.
Client Consultation:
Provide expert ecological advice to clients on marine ecosystem management.
Communicate complex ecological concepts to non-scientists.
Assist in the development of client proposals.
Qualifications:
Master's or Ph.D. in Marine Ecology, Biological Oceanography, or a related field.
Strong understanding of marine ecosystem dynamics and biodiversity.
Experience with field research and data collection in marine environments.
Proficiency in data analysis and statistical software (e.g., R, PRIMER).
Knowledge of GIS software.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
SCUBA certification (or willingness to obtain).
Experience operating ROVs or other underwater survey equipment is a plus.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with specific marine habitats (e.g., coral reefs, seagrass beds, estuaries).
Knowledge of local and regional marine ecosystems.
Experience with environmental DNA (eDNA) sampling and analysis.
Experience with fisheries ecology.

Responsibilities:
Marine Resource Valuation:
Conduct economic valuations of marine ecosystems, fisheries, and other natural resources.
Develop models to assess the economic impacts of environmental changes and human activities.
Quantify the value of ecosystem services provided by marine environments.
Cost-Benefit Analysis:
Perform cost-benefit analyses of proposed environmental projects, including conservation initiatives, restoration efforts, and infrastructure development.
Evaluate the economic feasibility of sustainable resource management strategies.
Provide economic input for environmental impact assessments.
Economic Modeling and Analysis:
Develop and apply economic models to analyze resource use, market trends, and policy impacts.
Conduct statistical analyses of economic data to identify trends and patterns.
Prepare reports and presentations summarizing economic findings.
Policy Analysis:
Evaluate the economic impacts of maritime environmental regulations and policies.
Provide economic input for the development of policy recommendations.
Stay up-to-date on relevant economic research and policy developments.
Client Support:
Provide economic expertise to support client projects and initiatives.
Prepare economic reports and presentations for clients.
Communicate complex economic concepts to non-economists.
Qualifications:

Strong understanding of economic principles and quantitative analysis techniques.
